The photo was taken this winter (2002) on the campus of Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida. The tree is a Shaving Brush Tree. Don't you just love that smile? |

![]() Sibley Page 264 Blue-crown Parakeets. L 14.5" WS 24" Voice: Low, hoarse, rapidly repeated "reedy reedy reedy". Blue forehead, pink upper mandible dark lower. Orange toned underside of flight feathers. These two playful birds were photographed this winter 2002 in a park near downtown Fort Lauderdale. |

![]() Sibley page 264 Red-masked Parakeet L 13.5" WS 22" Red entirely red, with red bend of wing. This guy looks happy, doesn't he? He was photographed this past winter 2002 in a park near downtown Fort Lauderdale, Florida. |
|||
![]() Sibley page 265 Yellow-Chrevroned Parakeet. L 8.75" WS 15". The voice is a high, scratchy krere-krere. They have yellow greater coverts, and dark remiges. This photo was taken this winter (2002) on the campus of Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida. These birds are always on campus, and at times one will hear about a dozen fly over like jet planes. The sight and sound is awesome! |

![]() Sibley page 265 White-winged Parakeet. L 8.75" WS 15" These birds look to me almost identical to the Yellow-chevroned parakeets. They sound similar too, although perhaps a bit mellower. You can see the white on the edges of the wings in this photo, but when they fly, that is when you can make a positive ID, as they have bright white secondaries and inner primaries. You can't miss the white. These are often seen on the campus of Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida, where this photo was take this past winter, 2002. |

![]() Sibley page 265 Black-hooded Parakeet, (AKA Nanday Conure) L 12" WS 23" Blackish head, black bill bright yellow-green underparts. This beautiful bird lives in Davie, Florida, and was photographed this Winter, 2002. There are several of them living in Davie. |
